What does it mean to be an introvert or extrovert?
Introversion and extroversion are two different personality traits that affect how we interact with our environment, where we draw energy from and how we handle social situations. Introversion and extroversion are one of the five dimensions of the Big Five Personality Traits, which is one of the most established psychological theories to describe personalities.
What does it mean to be an introvert?
An introvert draws energy from solitude and needs time to themselves to recharge their batteries. Introverts often prefer deep conversations to superficial social interactions and thrive in small groups or with single close friends. They may find social settings energising and need time to recover from social activities.
What does it mean to be an extrovert?
An extrovert is energised by being around other people and enjoys social situations. Extroverts often like to socialise in large groups, are spontaneous and seek new experiences. They tend to be outgoing and feel comfortable expressing themselves in different social situations.
It is important to remember that introversion and extroversion are a scale – most people have both introverted and extroverted traits, but with a tendency to lean one way or the other. There is also a third category, ambiverts, who lie somewhere in the middle and adapt depending on the situation.
