panic disorder test
If you have recurrent intense attacks of fear that come on suddenly, you may have developed panic disorder. You can do a self-test here to see if you have symptoms that may need treatment.
This test is not a diagnosis, but it can help you understand if you are experiencing symptoms that may be linked to panic disorder. If you have many symptoms of panic disorder and feel that panic attacks are affecting your life, it may be a good idea to contact a doctor or psychologist for further investigation and support.

What is panic disorder?
Panic disorder is a condition characterised by recurrent and unexpected panic attacks. A panic attack is an intense episode of fear or discomfort that can occur suddenly and peak within minutes. Many people who experience panic attacks describe them as overwhelming and frightening, sometimes with a feeling of losing control, fear of having a heart attack or even dying.
Panic attacks can occur in stressful situations, but they can also come without warning. The most common symptoms of a panic attack include:
- Heart palpitations or increased heart rate
- Shortness of breath or a feeling of not being able to breathe
- Sweating and shaking
- Dizziness or feeling of fainting
- Tingling or numbness in hands and feet
- A feeling of unreality or being disconnected from yourself
- Fear of losing control or dying
For people with panic disorder, the fear of the next panic attack often becomes a problem. Many avoid places or situations where they have had attacks in the past, which can lead to limitations in everyday life and in some cases the development of agoraphobia (fear of being in places where it may be difficult to escape quickly or get help, such as open squares, shopping centres, public transport and other large open spaces).
